If we want an EFFECTIVE, WORKABLE representative republic government, whether on the federal, state or municipal level we have to first DEFINE and ARTICULATE just WHAT is the proper role of the government in relation to the greater society, something that tends to be on the bottom of the average citizen's priority list (more on that later).
In a (near-)perfect world, over half the population of a country, state or city will care about politics so that they know not just the POTUS but their US Senators, Congressmen & state legislators; attend town meetings as often as possible; be abreast of forthcoming legisation and call, e-mail & snail-mail support or opposition; and listen to as much issues-oriented talk radio as possible.
However, people being people, most tend to shove government matters, whether national, state or local, to the shelf for one or both of these two basic reasons, in many cases both are applicable: 1) their jobs and then their daily domestic to-do lists, and 2) their 'bread-and-circuses' entertainment (TV, movies, pro and recreational sports), with which they detox and decompress then tune out and zone out on local, national
and global current events.
This then leads to any one on these three possible wrong-headed assumptions about government, anyone can hold two or all three at one time: 1) people in government are wiser and know better and ALWAYS have their constituents' best interests at heart; 2) who cares about what goes on in government because it doesn't matter; and 3) government should be Robin Hood & Santa Claus, take from those who work to give to those who WON'T work.
With these assumptions prevailing among the majority of populace, the people then DON'T hold their governments accountable. That's why you get stuff like the Imperial Federal Gooberment plunking down $500 for a sledge hammer or $1200 for an ivory toilet with a 24 karat gold flush handle; a current sitting POTUS who thinks he's emperor who lives high on the hog on the taxpayers' dime with the 73-and-countng golf outings and numerous fancy-shmancy gigs on AF1; and the mayor and 7-8 city managers or councilmen of Bell, a Los Angeles suburb, who have finagled for themselves hefty six-figure salaries while their constituents average $35K a year. Hence the immortal quote by Plato: the price of indifference towards politics is to allow your inferiors.
When more people get their arms around the fact that people in government are very fallible, susceptible to tempation and capable of making wrong decisions, they then WILL take an active role in holding their governments accountable.

Barack Hussein Obama - Nothin' But Special Interests
Our current POTUS Barack Hussein Obama loved using the phrase 'special interests' as a club and epithet against entities like oil companies, big corporations, Wall Street, etc., as Candidate Obama, and this remains SOP (standard operating procedure) to this day for BHO since his fateful White House coup d'etat.
However, it never seems to occur to BHO the 'Anointed One' or his sycophants (Obamatons, O-bots, Obamorons, etc.) that his whole campaign & subsequent White House coup d'etat is about nothing but special interests, most - daresay all - against the best interests of America & its way of life.
(in no special order):
1) neo-Black Panther black supremacist groups & their leaders - 'Calypso' Louis Farrakhan, the REHHHH-verends Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Jeremiah Wright and their zombie-drones;
2) welfare recipients and baby-mamas/brood-meres/professional childbearers - this may be closely tied with the previous group in that many boys from the latter become themselves black supremacist zombie-drones and/or criminals in the slammer;
3) La Raza, MALDeF (Mexican-American Legal Defense Fund) & other illegal Latino alien advocacy groups
4) the Velvet Fag-Lezzo Mafia (the far-left fringe of the Gay-Lesbian-Transgender-Bisexual movement)
5) radical-militant feminists of the Gloria Steinem-Betty 'Feminine Mystique (Mistake)' Friedan-Bella 'POW stands for Power Of Women, Buster!' Abzug stripe
6) Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers and advocates;
7) labor and teachers unions;
8) enviro-fascists/Nazis; global warmistas; and 'green (solar and wind) energy' zealots;
9) 'ambulance-chasing' 'slip-'n'-fall' shyster trial lawyers;
10) this may be the most egregious - Middle Eastern interests, especially terrorist outfits like Hamas, Al Qaeda, Hezbollah, the Taliban and so forth. All these groups were ROOTING FOR BHO in their websites BECAUSE they knew he would be their fool and patsy, and it's highly conceivable they funnelled a massive crap-load of 'sub-rosa' of campaign money to Obama. Could that be why Obama's Imperial Federal Gooberment had such weak-kneed yellow-bellied reactions to the Abu-Nidal Hassan shoot-up at Fort Hood and the 'ding-a-ling' bombings on Christmas Day 2009 on the Amsterdam to Detroit flight and in Times Square the following May; or his TSA-holes frisk and pat down everyone - wheelchair-bound kids and adults; octogenarian Irish nuns; tall blond and blue-eyed Scandinavians; babies, toddlers and elementary-school-aged kids, etc. - BUT Muslims and Middle Easterners, who they treat like sacred cows and go out of their way and bend over backwards to EXEMPT from profiling?
The 'Anointed One' has never been an average everyday American, can't relate to any and wouldn't know one if he tripped over one (like Joe The Plumber), thus he prioritizes the aforementioned ten groups (and maybe others I haven't thought about yet) over the rest of America, very much to the point that he's all too quick to throw rank-and-file Americans under the bus for HIS special interest groups - this could be a theme for a future blog entry. THUS WE rank-and-file hoi-polloi Americans have to do anything and everything we can to throw Barack Hussein Obama under the bus on Super Tuesday 2012!
